I haven’t worked a market in a very long time and I knew I was going to have to tie a dark brown burlap table cloth into a Christmas theme. I had no idea what I was going to do until a week before the show, seriously, just as panic was setting in I stumbled upon the pine cone idea. I needed to work with things I already had on hand in order to keep the cost down. I just don’t have a big budget for display items. Of course, I had things like glue, glitter, printable business cards, ribbon, twine and cedar pickets(I’ll save this to show you on another day) etc. I chose to make almost all of my display items and spent just a few dollars on snowflakes(just a couple of bucks worth) and galvanized buckets. The galvanized buckets were the most expensive market display element I purchased, but I bought them knowing I could use them over and over with different displays to hold soap and other products. I viewed them as more of an “investment.”
My overall theme is rustic Christmas. Pine cones will hold a description of each kind of soap. I gave them a bit of shimmer with silver glitter. Across the front of my table I will have a swag of pine cone strung on hemp twine with ribbons in between each pine cone-very simply yet rustic elegant. Tossed about among the pine cone sign holders and buckets of soap will be a few snowflakes to tie it all together. Simple and low budget. I hope it will all look as nice as I have it planned in my head. I’m planning to use this same set up in a couple of weeks for a show in Lamesa, so I’m actually getting a lot of bang for my buck-and when the shows are over the garland and shimmery pine cones will decorate my house for Christmas too.
